Choosing a Topic

Here are some suggestions for finding a topic:

  • Look through your syllabus at the topics for each class.
  • Read the Table of Contents or skim the index of your textbook.
  • Browse through the print journals in the library collection.
  • Consider historical events involving your major or future profession.

As you consider topics and look at different articles, keep the assignment requirements in mind. The article you choose must be:

  • on a topic in U.S. history from the time period covered for this class
  • peer reviewed
  • from a History journal
  • at least 5 pages long
